Installing Offerchat Free Chat Tool
Addressing those of you who wonder how to actually install the Best Free Chat Software Tool we mentioned earlier, we put up a simple set of instructions following Offerchat tutorials, which you can also find here.
The first thing you need to do is signing up for a free Offerchat account, by clicking on Offerchat.com:
You’ll be presented with something like this:
Once you filled in your details and double check your email to make sure you received a message from the Offerchat Team, click on the confirmation link they sent you and you will be redirected to a page where you just need to follow their initial instructions to get this great Free Chat Software for Your Business. There are two procedures to install the chat, depending on whether your site is running on WordPress or not.
Offerchat Installation: WordPress Sites
A) If you are running your site on WordPress, simply access your backend panel as you normally do.
Once on your dashboard, look for “Appearance” on the left menu and click on “Editor” as in the image below:
B) Then inside the “Editor” window, look for a file called “Header (header.php)” which is placed within the list of files you’ll see on the right. Click on the file to open it up and leave it there for a moment.
C) Open a new tab in your browser and access your Offerchat Dashboard: go to “Widget Settings” (1) and click on “Install Widget” (2) to view the code (3).
D) Copy the code (to copy select the whole code, then press CTRL+C on a PC or CMD+C on a Mac), go back to the “Header (header.php)” you opened on your WordPress dashboard and look for the “</head>” tag inside the ‘maybe unfamiliar’ code you see on the page. Once you find it, simply paste the code you previously copied by pressing CTRL+V on a PC or CMD+V on a Mac immediately before the </head> tag, as in the example below:
If you can’t find the </head> tag within the file, just press CTR+F on PC or CMD+F on a Mac and type /head. This will highlight the </head> tag immediately, so it’s easy to find where to place the widget code.
E) Now save your addition by clicking the “Update File” button. Then go back to your Offerchat tab and click the “Verify Code” button. You are set!
F) Load your website again and wait a few seconds: you should be able to view the small chat bar on your site.
Offerchat Installation: HTML Sites
If your site runs on a different platform than WordPress or is in HTML, login to the backend of your site to access the sourcecode, then follow instructions as per letter C) up this article.
Copy the code and paste it before the </head> tag of your site, as you see below:
If you feel this is still rocket science, and you hired a developer to do your site, you may either want to forward this article to your IT wizard (maybe you have a geek friend that can do this for free!) or hire one on a site like Elance.com (although to be honest this install takes less than 5 minutes and it shouldn’t therefore cost you any more than a few pennies, so beware of freelancers asking for unreasonable prices: if so, contact me here, and I ‘ll do that for you for free! The offer is valid only for WP sites, since I am a regular person like you and my sites all run on WordPress)
To forward this article to your installer click the blue “send to email” button you see below, next to the yellow star button.
